The educational and community development arm of Masjid Al-Ihsan — bridging Islamic scholarship to the lived realities of urban communities on Chicago's South Side. Knowledge and service are inseparable. Fisabilillah.
The Islamic Institute of Urban Affairs (IIUA) operates under the principle that knowledge and service are inseparable — that every act of community care is an expression of the Names of Allah made operational in the world.
Rooted in Bronzeville, the IIUA bridges Islamic scholarship to the lived realities of urban communities — offering programs in education, social services, outreach, and community development on Chicago's South Side under the guidance of Imam Abdullah Madyun.
The IIUA serves as the institutional expression of Masjid Al-Ihsan's commitment to the Bronzeville community — a living Amanah in the heart of the Black Metropolis. Every program, every service, every gathering is fisabilillah.
“The believers are but brothers, so make peace between your brothers and fear Allah that you may receive mercy.” — Quran 49:10
Education, community development, provision, justice, and empowerment — the IIUA's programs are expressions of the Names of Allah made operational in Bronzeville.
Quran studies, Tafsir, Hadith, Fiqh, and Islamic history. The IIUA provides educational programming for all ages — from children's Quran classes to adult Islamic studies circles.
The IIUA supports the Bronzeville community through social services, outreach, and community development initiatives — bridging the Masjid to the neighborhood it serves.
Sunday Feeding Program and Iftar on Wheels — the IIUA coordinates provision programs that serve the Bronzeville community and surrounding neighborhoods.
The IIUA engages in social justice advocacy, community organizing, and civic engagement — rooted in the Islamic principle of Qist (justice) and the lived reality of Bronzeville.
The IIUA provides foundational Islamic education and community support for new Muslims — covering prayer, Wudu, the Five Pillars, and the Six Pillars of Iman.
Workforce development, Zakaat distribution, and economic empowerment programs — the IIUA bridges the community to economic resources and opportunities.
